THE PACIFIC: Robert Schenkkan is the Emmy-nominated co-author of 4 episodes of HBO's 10-episode miniseries THE PACIFIC, produced by Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg. The Pacific is the long-awaited companion miniseries to Band of Brothers.
THE PROMISED LAND: Also at HBO, Schenkkan has beenhired to adapt and Co-Executive Produce Taylor Branch's Pulitzer prize winning trilogy, AMERICA IN THE TIME OF KING, as a seven part miniseries for HBO and Harpo Productions. Branch's three books,PARTING THE WATERS, PILLAR OF FIRE, and AT CANAAN'S EDGE have long been regarded as the best and most thorough recounting of Martin Luther King and the American Civil Right's movement.
INCOGNITO: Schenkkan has been hired to adapt Ed Brubaker's Eisner Award Winning Graphic Novel, INCOGNITO, as a feature film for Peter Chernin and Fox Films! INCOGNITO is the story of a super villain who is caught, turns State's Evidence against his former crime boss, and goes into Witness Protection - without his super powers. From God to office monkey. And then...his powers start to come back.
ANABASIS: According to Variety, Columbia Pictures "has acquired a pitch for an adaptation of "Anabasis," a memoir written around 400 B.C. by Xenophon, a Greek soldier who was among 10,000 elite mercenaries who attacked the Persian Empire and who led them back through hostile terrain after their leader was betrayed and slain. Script will be written by Robert Schenkkan, the Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright who just served as writer and co-producer on HBO miniseries "The Pacific." Jimmy Miller will team with Robbie and Jonathan Stamp to produce under Miller's Sony-based Mosaic label."
ANDROMEDA STRAIN: Robert Schenkkan's 4-hour miniseries adaptation of Michael Crichton's Andromeda Strain for A & E aired in Spring 2008, and was nominated for seven Primetime Emmy Awards, including Best Mini-Series. The project starred Benjamin Bratt, Christa Miller, Eric McCormack, Rick Schroder, Daniel Dae Kim, Viola Davis, and Andre Braugher, executive produced by Ridley Scott and Tony Scott, as well as David W. Zucker at Scott Free Productions , and Tom Thayer of Traveler's Rest Films. Mikael Salomon ("Salem's Lot") directed. It is now available on DVD.
Robert Schenkkan is currently working on assignment for Fox, on a script dealing with the final days of the US withdrawal from Vietnam, as well as adapting Ben Mezrich's bestselling nonfiction book UGLY AMERICANS: The True Story of the Ivy League Cowboys Who Raided the Asian Markets for Millions for Kevin Spacey's Trigger Street, and Dreamworks. He is working with Bristol Bay and producer Bill Mechanic (Pandemonium Productions) on DESMOND DOSS, the true story of a WWII conscientious objecter who won the Medal of Honor for his heroic solo actions as a medic, saving over 100 men, while unarmed and under fire. His adaptation of Paulette Giles' ENEMY WOMEN is at Fox 2000.
Schenkkan is co-credited with Christopher Hampton on 2002's The Quiet American, a film adaptation of the Graham Greene novel of the same title. The Quiet American, directed by Philip Noyce, garnered an Oscar nomination for Michael Caine, as well as significant critical acclaim for the ensemble, which included Brendan Fraser.
For television, Mr. Schenkkan has written the mini-series Spartacus, which aired in 2003, and Crazy Horse.
